I am an artist, printer, designer and workshop tutor, with a Fine Art Degree, based in Hassocks.  I love where I live, situate in the middle of the countryside and yet only 10 minutes on the train from Brighton and just under an hour to London. I am very lucky being able to work from a studio at my home, from where I can see the South Downs and the Jack and Jill Windmills at Clayton. I have so many inspirational things around me and find that there aren’t enough hours in the day to draw and print as much as I would like.

My textile designs have been sold to international companies including IKEA, TJ Maxx and Pottery Barn.    My wall art has also appeared on the BBC Drama series ‘Cuffs’.  I am also a member of the Adur Art Collective and Horsham Artists with whom I regularly exhibit. ‘Beginners Workshops’ are run by me at Made and Making, The Garden Room, South Downs Garden Centre in Hassocks.  My ‘Downs View’ reduction print was shortlisted for the 2018 Artists and Illustrators of the Year Award and exhibited at the Mall Galleries.

Process:

Using a combination of photography and sketching, I create my linocut images. Once I have drawn the picture I trace it onto the linoleum so that it is in reverse.  I then use my cutting tools to carefully carve into the Lino.  Ink is then rolled onto the surface with a brayer.  Next, paper is applied on top followed by the pressure of either a wooden spoon or printing press.  The paper is then carefully pulled back to reveal the final image which is now back to its original way round.  Most of my prints are produced in Limited Editions.  For multi-coloured pictures the reduction method is used which is as above except a lengthier process involving waiting for each colour to dry, cutting more Lino away and applying fresh ink for each layer.  For regular updates please visit my website or follow me on Instagram @suecollinsart        www.suecollinsart.com
